Writing and painting have been my passion for many years. As a young adult, I took a long-distance writing class. At that time, we didn't have the internet, so it was all via mail. In college I took two Spanish Literature classes that resulted in a couple of Spanish stories that were published in the Pima Community College Llueve Tlaloc magazine. Later as an adult, I joined a writing group - Sowing the Seeds. Then I went on a Writer's Retreat, and that's when I realized that my thoughts were worth publishing, and so my first book was born: Unraveled - A Journey Led by Faith and Hope.

As I've been told by many, I have one foot in Mexico and one in the USA. I have a deep love for Mom's hometown, Rayon, Sonora, Mexico. This is where I felt the most freedom and peace. Staying with my grandparents, and spending time with my cousins, aunts and uncles, was my biggest joy! I enjoy sharing stories from my time there from a young girl and then as a teenager, and later as a grown up attending New Year's dances, and other feast day celebrations that included food, horse races, and dancing. In later years, our trips were mainly to send our loved ones to another place where they now rest in peace.

The art came at a very early age. I fell in love with color. It could be that our mom was a seamstress and knitted. She worked with many colors of fabric and yarn. I remember creating a landscape scenery that looked like a painting from far but close, it was the different color of yarn I used to glue onto a discarded cereal box. From there, I picked up sketching with pencil. It wasn’t until my early 50’s that I began to paint with acrylic on terra cotta pots and whatever recycled material I found, and still do.
